EM 404 Node of Ranvier
Node of Ranver
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of a branching myelinated nerve fiber in the visual cortex.
Nodes of Ranvier are small gaps between segments of the myelin sheath that encircle the myelinated axons of neurons. A myelinated axon branches at a node of Ranvier.

Internodal Segments ( and ; dark brown) – covered by myelin sheaths
Paranodal Segments ( and ; light green) – lamellae terminate in sequential swellings on each side of the node
Axon (yellow) – branches at the node into two myelinated nerve fibers
