EM 082 Gallbladder

Simple Columnar Epithelium

Surface of the epithelium that lines the interior of the gallbladder as seen by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This view looks down on the apical surface of the epithelial cells covered with microvilli.

Although this is a simple columnar epithelium, the shape of the cells and the number of layers can not be determined from this micrograph.

The borders of the polygonal cells are easily seen by the gaps in the microvilli.
