RD 261 Beta Cell

Beta Cell

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of a nerve fiber adjacent to a beta cell in an islet of Langerhans within the pancreas.

Insulin secretion and blood flow are also affected by innervation by the autonomic nervous system.

  • Beta cell (green) - cytoplasm filled with secretion granules (purple)
  • (orange) - contains many synaptic vesicles
  • Schwann Cell (light blue) - processes wrap around nerves

  • Golgi Apparatus (yellow)
  • >Mitochondria (red)
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum (cyan)
