EM 205 Plasma Cell

Plasma Cell

Plasma cells are mature B lymphocytes that produce large quantities of antibodies.

A plasma cell contains abundant rough endoplasmic reticulum dilated with newly synthesized proteins, a prominent Golgi apparatus, and the absence of secretion granules.

  • (blue) - eccentric location, indented, and heterochromatin clumped at the periphery ("clockface").
    • (purple) - ribosomes bound to the outer nuclear membrane dilate its lumen with newly synthesized proteins.
  • Golgi Apparatus (yellow) - not visible.
  • (red) - contain many cristae.
  • (cyan) - abundant and organized into closely spaced cisternae. Its lumen is dilated with newly synthesized proteins.
  • (black) - dark vesicles.
  • Cytoplasm (green)
