EM 132 Smooth Muscle Cell

Immune Cells

The connective tissue beneath the simple columnar epithelium of the small intestine contains many immune cells. This smooth muscle cell (green) is surrounded by immune cells.

  • (purple) - contains numerous large, granules.
  • Plasma Cells (,; tan) - abundant rough endoplasmic reticulum dilated with newly synthesized antibodies. A prominent is seen in one cell.
  • Eosinophils (,; orange) - contain a multi-lobed nucleus and large, ellipsoid granules with a linear, crystalline core

  • Nuclei (blue) / Nuclear Envelope (purple)
  • Golgi Apparatus (yellow)
  • Mitochondria (red)
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum (cyan)
