Golgi's Stain
Sagittal view of the rat brain stained using Golgi's method. Silver stains a limited number of neurons and their processes (axon and dendrities). This allows the morphology of individual neurons to be examined. Nonneural cells of the nervous system do not stain.
Examine the diverse structure of neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) - not their names. Some prominent examples include:
Purkinje Cells (#1, #2, #3)- neurons founnd at the interface between the two layers of the cerebellum
Dendrites - highly branched in the outer layer of the cerebellum
Axon - a single axon extends into the inner layer of the cerebellum
